I. Customer

Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) is a world-renowned academic medical center located in Boston, Massachusetts. As a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, BWH is dedicated to providing the highest quality patient care, conducting innovative research, and training the next generation of healthcare leaders. The hospital serves a diverse patient population and provides a wide range of medical and surgical services, including primary care, cardiovascular care, cancer treatment, and more.

II. Challenge

BWH faced challenges in tracking clinical commitments and managing faculty data, including:

  • A lack of a centralized system for tracking clinical commitments
  • A lack of a single source of truth for faculty data
  • A lack of an effective tool for collaboration between administrative assistants and faculty

These challenges had a negative impact on the hospital’s efficiency and productivity, leading to inefficiencies and potential missed opportunities.

III. Solution

To address the challenges faced by Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Ksense developed a comprehensive web application using the Knack platform in conjunction with client and server-side code. We also used Vue.js to build custom reports and tools. This application provides a solution for faculty management, scheduling, and reporting, including features such as:

Custom reports displaying key faculty data, enabling BWH to perform capacity planning and scheduling.

  • A real-time web-based calculator for creating “what if” scenarios for each faculty member.
  • Bulk import and export functionality for streamlined data management.
  • A user management system allowing BWH admins to control access for various user types, including faculty members, administrative assistants, and physician assistants.

These features enable the hospital to quickly and easily access and use relevant information and data, improving decision-making and enabling them to better manage and track their faculty and clinical commitments.

IV. Results

The web application developed by Ksense for Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) has revolutionized faculty management at the hospital, significantly improving clinical hour management and increasing satisfaction among faculty members. Its use of a low-code platform also enabled Ksense to deliver the solution under budget, maximizing value for BWH. The app has brought a range of additional benefits to the hospital, including cost savings and further improvements in efficiency and productivity. One key benefit of the app has been its ability to automate processes that were previously done manually in excel, such as running reports. As a result, the reports generated by the app are more accurate and are generated automatically, saving time and improving the accuracy of data. Ksense continues to provide support for the app and keep it up-to-date with the latest technology.
